Another Haircut!

Today Dane got his 2nd haircut...he did really well and this time I didn't even have to hold his arms down. He just watched his little Elmo movie and "drove" his car! I didn't get a picture of his ride this time, but it was very "Grease Lightning"...an old black car with flames flying up the hood and down the sides. I asked for the stylist to "trim it up" and she sheered my poor babe! He really doesn't look like a baby anymore! And when we got home, this big boy climbed up in our big oversized armchair with his big boy book and sat there looking at it! Where did my baby go (sniff sniff)?

Stair Sledding Part Deux

We just got a treadmill....guess you all know what that means in our house. Big box + crazy husband = stair sledding extravaganza. I think this time he broke his tailbone!

Costa Rica

We are back! What a trip! Costa Rica was pretty awesome and the Four Seasons Resort was amazing. It was kind of like a bunch of tree houses scattered all over the hillside. Dane did better than I did (of course!) and things went well with him and mom. It seems like he grew a few inches and definitely added a bunch of words to his vocabulary. We missed him a lot and are glad to be back!

Costa Rica Bound!

We leave very early tomorrow morning for Costa Rica for Cameron's annual company trip! I am excited to go somewhere we've never been and also to have no responsibility for 4 days, however it's always hard to leave the little man. I know he'll be fine and in very loving hands with my mom and he'll have fun with cousins Andon & Presley, but it's just not an easy thing to leave them when they're little! We will have lots of pictures and stories when we return....stay tuned!

Remember when we took that trip to LA when Dane was 3 months old to visit our friends who have Finley, born a day after Dane? Well....Dane & Finley grew up.

We often have dance parties at our house and I'm happy to say that Dane has been hit by the dancin' bug! And even though it sounds like an "F" bomb gets dropped in this song, I am 99% sure that all MC Hammer music was clean...I would never purposely post something naughty on our blog! :)

Great Grandpa Gene

We lost my great grandpa Gene today (Dane's great great gpa)! Most people don't have the luxury of having such extended family as part of their lives, especially until they're 33 years old! I feel blessed to have been born into a family where longevity is the norm and I was fortunate to spend a lot of time with my great grandparents. I definitely didn't do a good enough job of going to see him over the past few years and I absolutely regret it, however he is home now and it's a bittersweet moment to know that he's in heaven with my great grandma. I had 3 great grandparents surviving until almost 6 years ago when I lost both of my great grandmothers just a few weeks apart. Ever since he lost his wife almost 6 years ago, my great grandpa has just wanted to join her in heaven.

This amazing man had 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren (I think I'm counting correctly)....pretty crazy, huh? He was a kind, gentle man that will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him!

Eugene H. Polk, 93, of Winona Lake, died April 1, 2010.

He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Kosciusko County, to Edward C. and Emma Grace Hover Polk. On Sept. 28, 1935, he married Delight Paxton, who died July 24, 2004, after 68 years of marriage.

Following their wedding, they began life together on the William Wise farm in Monroe Township. In 1938, they moved west of Claypool to Seward Township, where they lived until 1976, when they sold their farm and purchased a home in Winona Lake. In 1965, they began wintering in Delray Beach, Fla., where they both worked at Blood's Hammock Grove. In 1990, after 23 years of sorting fruit, he retired. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, Silver Lake.

Surviving are a son, Larry (and spouse Shirley) Polk, Leesburg; a daughter, Dixie (and spouse John) Nichols, Claypool; a son-in-law, Ed Hatfield, Warsaw; a sister, Gladys Gebert, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren: Dennis (and spouse Pam) Polk, Syracuse; Tim (and spouse Lili) Polk, Zella Hatfield and Penny (and spouse Dave) Miller, all of Warsaw; Sally (and spouse Gary) Bailey and Gary Polk, all of Leesburg; Zona (and spouse Rick) Blackburn, Silver Lake; Zina (and spouse Steve) Juillerat, Larwill; and Robert (and spouse Tammy) Nichols, Smyrna, Ga.; 18 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Hatfield; a sister, Mildred Tinkey; and a brother, Kenneth L. Polk.

He was a beloved and devoted father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with the Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
