Cubs Extravaganza Week!

So last week was a Cubbies extravaganza for us (or was it 2 weeks ago?? Am I that behind on posting?)! It started on Saturday, July 17 with the McGinnis / Kopala / Hatten cubs outing. Then on Wednesday, July 21 Cameron & I went to the Cubs game with Steve & Jillian. I was starting to have major mommy guilt for leaving Dane 3 full days in one week so we could go to Cubs games (especially because it was the week we took away his pacifier!). Wednesday was a rough day for him, but he got past it pretty quickly and the pacifiers have been long forgotten! And...we had a great time with the Granas!

McGinnis Visit

Last weekend our friends from NYC came in for the weekend. They are the ones we went to Turks & Caicos with and we always make a trip to visit them in the summer (we will be with them in NYC for a long Labor day weekend). We had a busy weekend, but as always we had a great time with them. We went up to Tim & Teresa's lakehouse on Friday and stayed over there. Saturday morning we packed up, stopped by our house to drop Dane with the babysitter and continued onto Chicago to watch the Cubbies play the Phillies. Unfortunately, they lost but we still had a fun day in the city! We also got the opportunity to meet up with our friends Sean & Sarah...they were in the city for a weekend getaway from South Bend. Thank you Julee & JB for visiting and thank you Brooke & Steve for sharing our Saturday outing to see the Cubbies play!

Pacifier No More

Today we started the process of breaking Dane of his pacifier. We cut all of his paci's so the nipple is split right down the middle. Nap time was awful...screaming, crying and chucking his "broken" paci's for about 40 minutes. Not fun...heartbreaking actually. I was with him for the entire time patiently riding out the abuse that my 17 month old was bestowing on me. However, bedtime went great! I am praying that the rest of this week goes as well as it did tonight! Likely not, but you never know.

Dane also just received a harmonica from our friends from NYC...he picked it up and just started playing. He knew what to do with it immediately! Here is Dane's debut as a harmonica player....

Just the 3 of us!

This weekend was a weekend with just the 3 of us for the most part. Cameron and Dane had a daddy/son overnight on Friday while I went to see my college roomies. They both live in Chicago and have started a monthly book club...I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate. I got home Saturday early afternoon and we had our daily dance party on the deck, played in the pool, went for a wagon ride...all the fun things that are typical around here. On Sunday, we went to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. It is a perfect size for Dane because it's not all that big and best of all - it's FREE!! We went on a carousel ride, saw monkeys, apes, lions, tigers, camels, zebras and the farm animals (that he'll be seeing again this week at the Kosciusko county fair).

Ready for a day @ the zoo!Carousel ride with my crazy dad!Monkeys were my favorite!Chicago Skyline:Deserves a story all to itself:So this big guy came out and threw his head back and let out about 8 consecutive "roars"...not sure if he wasn't liking the spectators in front of his cage or what, but Dane did not like Lion speak! He didn't cry, but he kind of whined and wanted to get as far away from it as possible. I wish I had thought to grab the video camera...for Cameron & I - it was pretty cool, but Dane was a bit freaked out!

Our Long Holiday Weekend in a Nutshell!

Sorry for the lack of blog posts...we just got a new computer and the technologically savvy person that I am is just starting to figure out how to download pictures and how to find where they're saved on the computer. I know it seems like a simple thing but we got a MacBook Pro and it's a bit different than a "normal" laptop! So...we had a fun 4th of July weekend. On Friday afternoon we went to a pool party at Luke & Nicole's house. Dane was a maniac.....when we took him out of his swim trunks and put him in dry clothes - he went and sat down in the kiddie pool. So much for the dry clothes! Unfortunately I forgot my camera so I have no snapshots from the pool party. On Sunday, Cameron & I met friends of ours for lunch and the Cubs game. Despite the temps being in the 90s, it was actually not all that hot at the game however we all got a little toasty from the sun. On Monday Cameron went golfing in the early part of the day while I hung with the little man. Once Cameron got home, I went to get my hair cut and then met Nicole to see "Twilight: Eclipse"....now I hate to admit that I'm a twi-hard but I kind of am. I didn't read the books until after the 2nd movie was released. So many of my friends told me I should, so I read all of the books in a matter of a couple weeks and I was 100% hooked about halfway through the first one. The books are better than the movies, but this 3rd movie was the best so far and actually followed the book pretty closely.

Happy 4th of July Weekend!

Here's wishing you a happy and safe holiday weekend! We have a busy weekend ahead of us, but all fun stuff.
