Burrito Baby
We had great luck with Kale sleeping...in the beginning. For the past 3 weeks, nights have been horrific. Literally there might have been 2 stints when Kale slept for an hour and a half each night. Aside from that, he would pretty much wake every time we laid him down. Out of desperation and exhaustion, he was in our bed for a few hours each night which we are 100% against. We now have him on a special formula and medication for acid reflux but the thing that has made the biggest difference is the miracle blanket. I am not one to endorse products on our blog, however if you have an infant or are preggers I would highly recommend picking one up. We started using it on Saturday night and for the last 3 nights, our child is back to the same schedule he was on the first 2 weeks of life. A feeding at 2:30 or 3am and again about 3 hours later.

Dane dates
Since Kale was born, we've tried to have "dates" with Dane so that he knows he is still important and so he gets some uninterrupted time with Cameron and I. Tonight Dane & I went bowling...thought it would be something fun and different. We had a lot of fun and Dane 100% ran with it until he stepped over the line on the lane. There was a warning buzzer that went off and freaked him out a bit. After he got buzzed every time he went to the ball return to get the ball, he handed it to me and said "mommy's turn". He still came out near the lane to cheer me on but he didn't push the ball down the lane again.Friday, March 18, 2011
One Month Check up
Kale had his one month checkup yesterday...he's growing well. He weighs 10lbs, 5oz and is in the 50th percentile for weight. His length is 22.5 inches and he fell into the 75th percentile for that. So...he has gained over 3 lbs and grown over 3 inches since birth. I cannot believe he is already a month old!! Things are going well and we're falling into our new norm with 2 active little boys. Dane has adjusted well and seems to be over the shock of sharing me with a newborn. Dane has also taken a serious liking to getting into the dog's water when I am feeding Kale. I am not sure but I think he was bobbing for apples in there this morning....
The thing I found most interesting about Kale's checkup is that he is pretty much the exact same size Dane was at a month old. Dane was 10lbs, 11oz and 22 inches long!

Monster Invasion
Last weekend we had a monster invasion of the under 5 kind....we had a houseful of munchkins and their parents. Jeff, Christy, Barrett, Janel, Brian, Andon, Presley and Dad & Pam were all here!!

Two
Two...
On Monday (my first day alone with the 2 monsters), I decided to throw myself into parenting two with gusto. I scheduled Dane's two year checkup and Kale's two week checkup for that very day. I managed it and now we've already gotten the first outing over with. That is not to say that I will be schlepping both kiddos to the grocery store anytime soon but at least I did manage to get out of the house with 2. Kale checked out just fine...he was up to 8 lbs, 4 oz but that is the only stat I got on him. They will measure more at his one month checkup. Dane is still tall and skinny...29.4 lbs (20th percentile) and 35.5 inches (75th percentile).
It is funny to me how difficult everything seemed after bringing home Dane...most days I couldn't remember if I brushed my teeth and I didn't get out of my pajamas for the first 4-6 weeks!! This time is so much different...now I get frustrated if Kale is cluster feeding all morning and I can't get a load of laundry folded or the dishes done. Speaking of cluster feeding...Kale does it. all. day. long. The amount of milk he is taking is actually quite ridiculous compared to what the "norm" is for his age group. They say 20-30 oz and Kale sucks down 34 to 36 oz per day. He is taking 4 oz bottles and most newborns take 2 oz. So as you must suspect by what I've just written...he's a little pig pig and we're supplementing with formula to try to keep this kid full. There is no way I could keep up! Dane is a smart little cookie and has figured out that when I'm feeding Kale, he can get away with a bit more than normal. Yesterday, he went into the laundry room and filled the dog's water bowl with dog food so there was a nice mess of mushy dog food waiting for Cameron or I to clean it out (thank you Cameron). I am sure I will have many more stories to share as these 2 grow and start getting into trouble together!! So far, we're managing with the 2nd child and it actually doesn't seem much more difficult than having one...except when Dane is feeling the pinch a bit and wants to be held while I am holding Kale. That makes me feel guilty but I know he'll adjust!

Cameron's Hustle
Today Cameron completed the annual "Hustle up the Hancock". This race takes 4,000 people up the stairs of the Hancock Building of Chicago all for the great cause of raising awareness and funds for respiratory disease. Cameron raced up the 94 flights of stairs in 17 minutes and 43 seconds.
