I have said a thousand times that I wish I had the motivation to run because I would love to say I ran a 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon someday. A friend of mine who shares my extreme hatred for running has been running for a few years and has completed at least one half marathon and many other runs (forgive me Kim, I cannot keep up on all your running exploits). She has talked me into starting my running "career" with a really fun 5k run...called a mud run. I am sure you can imagine exactly what that is. Along with a 5k run, there is an obstacle course and you get down & dirty. Kim and I will be part of a team of ladies doing this mud run in June. Please let me know if anyone would like to join us. If you need to see what it's all about, check out the video below. I am strangely super excited about doing this and finally being able to say I completed a 5k run.

The Sickness
Well well well...here we are again, facing another ear infection. Kale's 5th since November in fact, and let's make this one a double! And just so we don't feel like the sickness is letting up, let's make sure Dane has a double ear infection to go along with it!! I hate to complain but GEESH! I am complaining! We have been sick since November...it's a non stop cycle. Sick for a week, well for maybe 2 weeks and then we get a nasty cold again. Every cold has settled into Kale's ears and this is Dane's second ear infection since January 1. And...and to top it all off, Cameron has had a CRAZY work schedule so he's been gone. I know he feels terrible about it, but what do you do? Someone has to bring home a paycheck because being a mom doesn't pay anything but LOVE (and whining, crying, tantrums, frustration, extreme patience...well you get the picture). I know things could be so much worse but right now I just want to marinate in feeling a bit sorry for myself. Thank God my mom came up on Wednesday and Teresa came over to hang out. Once I told mom that Dane had a double ear infection and Cameron was leaving that day for CA, she wouldn't take no for an answer. So I had an extra set of hands. Cameron gets home tonight thankfully and now that Kale is on a new antibiotic, hopefully we will kick this junk and keep it away. So life around here has been tolerable at best...barely. Two crab apple boys and a mama about to pull her hair out has made things a bit difficult to say the least. After all this, I really do not know how moms with really sick babies handle it. I truly don't think I could, except for I guess you just have to. Thank God for benzocaine numbing drops...that is the only thing that allowed Kale to sleep last night. Poor guy...I squirted so much in his ears, it was dripping down his lobes but it worked! And if I thought that benzocaine would have numbed me to the chaos that is currently my life, I would have drank the little bottle. Here is to a healthier February for our boys...and to no more whining posts from me!

Happy 1st Birthday Barrett!!!
Although we celebrated with him over the weekend of the 14th, I wanted to wish Barrett an official "Happy 1st Birthday!!!" Barrett, Aunt Jen will likely forget to wish you a happy birthday on the blog in future years (just ask your cousins) but this year I remembered! We're so excited to have you as part of the family and I am so excited to watch you grow up with my boys and cousins Andon & Presley! It's going to be a wild ride with all of you little hooligans but we know it's going to be a fun ride too!

FORTS!!
I am sure that every little boy loves forts. Things are no different here in the Hatten house. Most evenings when Cameron gets home from work, all pillows are off of the couches and chairs and there are blankets everywhere. Because you see once the fort has been built, tearing it down is even more fun than playing in it!
